Lately – family business

Creating a family project is wonderful but it comes along with a lot of pressure. Lately we have been living the most challenging times we have ever experience but those are also some of the richest moments a family can go through. Thank you Terese and Markus for all the energy and challenges!

20th World Teachers Day

World Teacher's DayTodays is the 20th World Teacher’s Day.

In 1994, UNESCO proclaimed 5 October World Teachers’ Day, in celebration of the great step made for teachers in 1966 when a special intergovernmental conference convened by UNESCO in Paris in cooperation with the ILO adopted the International Labor Organization/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.

Teachers are one of the essential professional activities for the proper development of the communities and their rights and work conditions are not respected as much and as wide as they should.

We share in UNESCO’s call for this day: Invest in the Future, Invest in Teachers!

Day of Music and Terese!

Today, first of October, is the World Music Day. It is also the day of the name Terese.

It is a celebration day for The Walkabout Family!

Read more about these two days below.

International Music Day

Lord Yehudi Menuhin

The International Music Day was initiated in 1975 by Lord Yehudi Menuhin to encourage:

  • the promotion of our musical art among all sections of society
  • the application of the UNESCO ideals of peace and friendship between peoples, of the evolution of their cultures, of the exchange of experience and of the mutual appreciation of their aesthetic values
  • the promotion of the activities of IMC, its international member organizations and national committees, as well as its programme policy in general.

Terese’s Name Day

A name day (also known as feast day) is a tradition in many countries in Europe of celebrating a day based on an individual’s given name. The custom originated with the Catholic and Orthodox calendar of saints, where believers, named after a particular saint, would celebrate that saint’s name day.  In many countries, however, there is no longer any explicit connection to Christianity.

The celebration of name days differ greatly between countries.  There are many countries that consider name days as significant as their birthdays, while there are some that still barely recognize the tradition. With those countries that still celebrate it, each year’s calendar is generally printed with the names to be celebrated.  The names differ greatly also.  Some countries have names of Saints, while others have selected specific names for each calendar day.  In some cultures, a name can appear more than once.  In this situation, the individual celebrates the name day closest to his/her birthday.
